BBSRC
Workplace Consultancy – Building Analysis – Atrium Feasibility Study
Client: Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) Building: Polaris House. Swindon Date: 2012
Many companies still adhere to traditional views of how their workplace operates – where ’the Desk’ is a place to carry out all forms of office related work. In the ‘age of the knowledge worker’ these attitudes are being challenged towards improving performance, encouraging talent, sharing knowledge, sharing ideas and improving communication.
Against this background various areas of investigation into how BBSRC’s current working practices, organisation, support facilities, accommodation and layout might be challenged to benefit from New Means of Working.
Feasibility studies investigated infilling the existing formal gardens with additional floor space and insertion of a small accommodation building. Building analysis revealed improved methods of space utilisation and accommodation use. The resulting workplace study recommended a number of tailored workplace settings which improved collaboration within a new matrix working initiative.
